JB cafes | Rabbit Softserve [New!]

A foodie review for Rabbit Softserve JB.

r5

Hello August and it is the weekend after Singapore’s National Day! Happy belated Singapore! This year, everyone is getting a longggg weekend starting from Friday (9 Aug) to Monday (12 Aug) due to National Day and Hari Raya Haji. Many of my friends have gone on short trips especially since it’s really rare to get such a long weekend plus many have started work since graduation. Meanwhile, I am just chilling at home for some me-time, catching up with my fam and watching vlogs from my favourite channels!

r1

Alright, back to my foodie updates. So, I visited Rabbit Softserve a few weeks ago with my siblings. It is by far the nearest softserve cafe to my house, with super aesthetic interior, really tasty iced latte and of course, softserve!

Here’s what we got:

r4

What is so special about their softserve is that it is handcrafted and a new flavour is available every week! When we went to the cafe, we were able to choose between the choice of Tiramisu or Watermelon softserve. We got the Tiramisu one! What’s even more impressive (IMO LOL) is how they used dry ice to create some effects around the softserve. A+ for effort indeed!

The brothers shared an iced latte while sis and I shared a Korean Soda drink (not sure what is the exact name). Both were so good and I am craving for the iced latte already!

r3

This place is also super cosy and quiet (probably only on the weekdays). I will definitely come back when I need a break or a spot to study and chill at the same time 🙂 Will visit them again soon!

Sg food | Habitat by Honestbee

A foodie review for Habitat by Honestbee

Hab1

H A P P Y    J U L Y   2 0 1 9 !

So I began July with a trip down to Habitat by Honestbee. Just a brief description of what this place is about: It is a ‘multi-sensory, tech-meets-food grocery and dining experience’ where customers can see, feel, hear, touch and taste fresh flavors and food from all over the world. With the use of the Honestbee mobile application, one will first scan the QR code to get through the gantry and then begin their journey!

The Habitat was designed as a high-tech supermarket serving fresh food and open kitchens. Multiple seatings were also available for customers to dine in, good for both small and big group gatherings! We grabbed a seat and started to order our dinner via the mobile app at the comfort of our seats.

Known as the Bee Pass, the app allows cashless payment and customized service for each customer. The idea is great and convenient, just that the collection of food was a little tedious as we have to locate the kitchen by ourselves and some could have been hidden in a corner.

Moving on, let’s look at the food we have ordered!

Hab3
Mochi almond bun (~$3)

For starters, we got ourselves a mochi almond bun from Lazy Loaf. The bun was nicely toasted and filled with a layer of mochi in between the peanut butter jam!

Hab4
Poofy’s souffle pancakes ($14)

We were then looking through a few food reviews before deciding what mains we should get. The first was this pancake by Poofy, served with fresh vanilla cream, fruits (strawberry and blueberry), and maple syrup. The pancakes were really light and delicious! Waiting time was less than 15mins (though the app indicated that the waiting time was more than 30mins)  but probably because we were there on a weekday night and the crowd was small.

Hab2
Fish and Chips ($14.90)

Next, we also got a set of Fish and Chips from Captain Snapper. The dish was served with two huge pieces of fish (our choice was barramundi and dory fish), a generous amount of fries as the side and paired with their homemade sauce which you can select (we chose the spicy tartare and it was great!). You may also order a small cup of lemonade or beer to complete your meal!

Do visit them if you are interested in a fresh experience!

Sg cafes | Hvala

A foodie review for Hvala, Chijmes Singapore.

H3.jpg
interior

A chill out session this end June with one of my favourite person! So glad to have found this cosy little corner with great matcha options from latte, ice blend to even waffles. Hvala was filled with Japanese furniture such as bamboo benches, low tables, and cushions seats, giving a great boost to the overall experience.

H2
Hojicha and Matcha Hojicha latte ice blend (SGD5.50/6)

I must say this is really by far one of the bestttt matcha I have ever had! There are probably good ones in Japan (which I hope to have a chance to try) but this is close enough back home!

H4
Matcha Hojicha latte ice blend (SGD6)

For those who have not been to Hvala, both of the drinks are worth the try! You may even opt for no milk in your drinks.

H1
matcha ice cream with mini waffles (SGD8.90)

On top of the drinks, we also ordered a set of their mini waffles (I think this is pretty new) which was served with a big scope of matcha ice cream. Waffle pieces were really crispy and the ice cream was creamy and rich! We wanted to get their popular black sesame cake but sadly it was out of stock for the day. Shall visit them again soon!

JB cafes | ROUTINE by Soon [New!]

A foodie review for ROUTINE by Soon Cafe, Johor Bahru.

RBS1
entrance

SUMMERTIME

Began my long break with one of my favourite hobbies – cafe hopping! Different from their previous cafe (People & Places Cafe), RBS was designed with a casual concept where there are order and pick-up queues in the shop and mostly self-service. Dine in or Take outs are both readily available! Guess this concept suits the younger generation better since we are more about fresh experiences!

RBS4
interior

The RBS shop is spacious, with large sharing tables and a place that is friendly for group gatherings. Walls are decorated with pastel shades and each seating also has a name behind it. If you have the time or there is not much crowd around, you may look around carefully and even find your name!

RBS3
packaging

Even the packaging is so aesthetic! Love the minimalistic look with bold fonts around.

RBS2
food

As for the food, we ordered two different sets. Each set came with the main dish, a choice of drink (soft drink or mineral water) and a choice of dessert (homemade lemon cake or baked cheesecake*) for less than RM25! So super worth it.

As shown in pic is their signature quesadillas! It is just as good as the ones they served at People & Places cafe. We also tried out one of their new recipes for RBS – the beef burrito. The pulled beef inside was nicely cooked with a rich flavour. What was slightly disappointing is that the burrito itself is quite dry, probably because there is not much sauce and vegetables in it. Just a note, the portions might also be a little small for guys!

*fyi, their cheesecake is really the bomb! It’s a must try even if you don’t want to get a set.

RBS5

Overall, RBS is really worth the visit! They are also serving new menus now and then such as the rice bowls (which I have yet to try). Can’t wait to munch on them soon.

Do add them to your next JB cafe hop destination too!

JB cafes | People & Places Cafe

A foodie review for People & Places Cafe, Johor Bahru.

p&p3

I AM BACK

It’s been almost a year since I last posted but throughout this period, I have explored quite a few yummy places and can’t wait to share them with you!

People & Places has been a really popular spot for foodies. There were reviews done ranging from their coffee to their brunch and even the interior design of the cafe itself.

So finally, it is my turn to visit!

p&p2
{barista & cashier area}

Located at the industrial area of Mount Austin, People & Places Cafe adopted the modern industrial design and produced a raw and edgy interior look. Other than the use of metallic furniture and walls, they included a variety of plants around which tied in nicely to the open concept and made it more comfortable for customers.

Moving on, it’s FOOD time!

pp5
{watermelo mojito and latte}

The latte was pretty smooth, not as bitter as compared to many others which I have tasted before. Naturally, the aftertaste was slightly towards the milky kind too. As for the mojito, I really thought that the taste of the mojito itself could have been stronger in order to make the drink more balanced and perfect!

pp4
{Quesadilla Brekkie}

Heard a lot about their signature quesadilla and yes, it was indeed very satisfying! The tortilla layers were really crispy and hot, covering several ingredients such as tomatoes, meat and even had pomegranate as its topping! Not sure if I can find another quesadilla that is better than this?

Am actually salivating while typing all these.

pp7.jpg
{big breakfast with avocadoes}

Their usual BB doesn’t come with avocadoes but my BB wanted it. I must say, no regrets. To me, it was like having curry sauce to my chicken nuggets.

It’s that kind of perfect combination.

Mushrooms were nicely seasoned too. The scrambled eggs, mini hashbrowns, bacon, and baked beans… yes, we finished it all!

p&p1
{BB, me and the beautiful cafe}

So, if you are planning a day trip to JB anytime soon, do add them to your list!

Will defo be back.
